It took a planetary cataclysm to make David H. Levy a household name.
Much of the world was watching in July 1994 when 21 chunks of the Shoemaker-Levy 9 comet, which Levy helped to discover, slammed into Jupiter, producing one of science's greatest public relations events in living memory.
Things weren't always so glamorous for David H. Levy. 'Comet Hunter' will tell his story. The format is 48 minutes, or one hour TV, divided into several blocks. It should be available as a DVD or download once completed.
The story of David H. Levy is both character driven, that being his passion for discovering a comet.
‘Comet Hunter’ focuses on the life of David H. Levy and covers some of the highlights of his career. They include working with Gene and Caroline Shoemaker; discovering comets; and finding his true love Wendee.
One comet discovery in particular, Shoemaker-Levy 9, changed our understanding of cometary impacts when it was witnessed slamming into Jupiter (as seen in the short movie above) in the Summer of 1994.
This impact event with Jupiter was a major turning point in the career of David H. Levy.
During the week of the Jovian impact, he was invited to the White House and was also featured along with Gene and Caroline Shoemaker on the cover of Time Magazine. That week truly changed his life.
